What would be the difference in setting up the small vs the big wheel versions for supermoto? Does either one work better then the other as a supermoto or from the parts availability standpoint? Would 17" wheels fit on both?

We have a small wheel here at ABR Motorsports with 17's w/ GP 125 slicks and have no problems with any rubbing and still have room for adjustment, the only difference in the two bikes is the length of the swing arm and of coarse the tires and wheel size. Parts are readily available for this bike just about anywhere:thumbup:

the small wheel bike will take a 17" no problemo. where has this myth that it won't come from?
i have both a 12" wheelset and a 17" wheelset. they work great and each has it's place depending on the track. u state setting up for supermoto. if u are going in the dirt i'd go w/17's. i have ridden my 12's in the dirt and it is sketchy.

Thanks so much for the input so far! I was leaning towards the small wheel because I'm short and when I was sitting on the small wheel at a dealer I was already tippy toeing like a balerina.
I was considering getting a sm'd big wheel from NYC although that would be quite a drive, but I just found a cheaper almost stock small wheel locally. I figured I can just sm it over the winter bit by bit, just want to make sure the bike would work out ok as a sm.

What would be the difference between riding on the 12 and 17s? Sorry, total noob to this, but I immagine the bike's gotta handle differently some how.

I`ve got a set of both 12x2.15 and set of 12x2.50 for my 150r.. The 2.50 rim is way better on the front and rear than the 2.15... I`ve got alot of races on both sets.... the 12x 2.50 are hands down the best. :thumbup: ... I have both sizes for my kx65`s also. It turns in way better with the 12x2.50 rims front and rear...... You won`t know what you are missing untill you run a set. Much better contact patch.:hmmm:

You can also purchase my Applied Racing caliper carrier and a dual piston caliper (which there is a caliper lying around the shop also) to upgrade your brakes:thumbup: I have an add for the carrier in the classifieds:infrandom:infrandom

Oh BTW, the 12's make the bike steer way faster and are excellent on smaller tracks:thumbup:

haha! thanks for all the wheel offers! so far I can get 17 slicks free so if I can find a decent priced set of 17 rims I'll likely go with those.. if there aren't any massive handling problems with that

One of the many benefits of using 17's is access to true GP slicks. Some will probably disagree, but you don't get that with 12's. They're fine to use with 65's and likewise machines like NSR's and Metrakits that don't carry as much momentum through corners, but not 85's.
Compared to a RS or TZ based GP machine with an 85cc conversion, the turn-in on a Supermoto is FAR faster and no one was complaining about turn-in on small tracks before someone came up with the novel idea to mount a set of 12's. Speaking of which, the young upcomers and adults racing RS85's and TZ85's on those same tracks aren't complaining and those machines are far harder to corner than a tall, twitchy and easy to handle Supermoto.
